Model information

Split Screen Panel Van and Type 2 Splitscreen

Info

This Split Screen panel van dates from March 1967 and was assembled in the Naas Rd. factory.

The ESB livery isn’t original, the van was used as a prop for the 1995 movie “Korea”. The movie was set in rural Ireland in the 1950s, around the time of the ESB’s Rural Electrification scheme. PZJ217 was painted and signwritten to resemble the VW panel van mobile showrooms the ESB used throughout the country to show householders and farmers the benefits of electricity in their homes and farms. Of course, the actual vans the ESB used in the ’50s were the earlier “barndoor” style of which none remain so a ’67 was the closest thing the film company could get to create their replica.

We haven’t seen the movie but we have heard that sadly the van only gets the briefest of screen time. What a shame! PZJ217 is currently in need of a lot of love if it is to see the road again but it is being minded by a life-long enthusiast so hopefully some day it’ll be restored.
