Huge thanks to Darren O’Rourke of the Original Irish Aircooled VW Facebook group for this excellent photo. Darren has the ability to source some of the funniest and most obscure photos of vintage VWs, with this 1955 Oval Window Beetle Deluxe being one such fun photo.
This December ’55 Westmeath registered Oval was photographed on Lough Owel which is near Mullingar, County Westmeath. We’re not sure of the date it was taken but it was thanks to Kenneth Crann who filled in the blank about it being taken on Lough Owel. Kenneth commented “The famous Beetle on the frozen Lough Owel”
