Model information

Split Screen Pickup

Info

This very rare Irish assembled Type 2 Split Screen belongs to a gentleman by the name of Brendan. Brendan submitted these photos that date back to 2016 when it was out and about for the local Paddy’s Day parade.

Not only is this Ruby Red (L456) Pickup rare because there are so few left today, especially Irish ones, but it’s rare because, as a November 1967 registered Splittie it has to have been one of the last Split Screen Pickups to have been assembled in Ireland. Bay Window assembly had already begun by that time and let’s face it, the new Bay Window would have been a far more attractive option to buyers so this may have sat unsold for many months. It’s also possible that this Split was sold and driven around Clare with the old familiar FOR REG plate and not registered until late in 1967.

As we’ve said so many times, nothing surprises us when it comes to this register because everyone of these VWs come with their own backstory, each unique in their own right but always funny!

No matter what the actual story is, Brendan has a lovely original and untouched Type 2 Split Screen Pickup that we can’t wait to see on the road this summer.
