I think it’s fair to say that this photo is self explanatory and requires little in the way of description because it was as you see in the photo, a rusty Beetle dumped in a field!
Myself and Larry Hannon found this 1965 1300 Beetle Deluxe while out on one of our usual Volkswagen hunting trips. This day we were looking in and around North Tipperary when we spotted this sad looking Bug rotting away in the field. Those were the days when it was possible to find old VWs in fields, yards and in driveways!
HFI 104 was assembled in Dublin and sold through Spooner’s Garage in Roscrea in 1965. What happened between then and when we photographed it in 1996 is anyone’s guess. What was nothing more than a parts donor back then would probably be considered for a full restoration today!
