We’re very lucky here at Beetle.ie to have some really fantastic enthusiasts who submit photos from many years ago as well as photos taken very recently. We couldn’t continue to grow the Beetle.ie Census without the people so to you all we say thank you very much.
Roger O’Sullivan is one such enthusiast who contributes on a regular basis. Roger was and still is always snapping vintage cars on his travels. Thankfully he managed to capture quite a number of aircooled VWs on his daily travels. This Fastback is just one of the VWs he has contributed to the Census and it’s a beauty.
The 1971 Dublin registered 1600TL Fastback looked striking in Iberian Red (L31F) 19.01.1971 Iberian Red (L31F) when he lined it up in his viewfinder back in 1990s Cork City. The Fastback has been extremely well minded, so much so that a short while after Roger saw this Type 3, it was submitted to a permanent display in the Killarney Motor Museum which sadly does not exist any longer.
We’re not sure when it left the museum or what happened to it after that but at some point in time it was bought by an enthusiast in Kerry. It has been kept in dry storage which means that it looks almost identical to how it did in its 1990s photoshoot.
